now obviously every episode of the office doesn't start out with some segment where steven colber or whoever the fuck stands in front of the camera and says "women suck!"

but that doesn't change the way the show represents women. let's look at the lovely female cast:

JAN: Jan is the supervisor of the boss or whatever. She's probably the most optimistic example of a female figure in the show. She's highly ambitious and serious about her work. As you'd expect, however, she's dysfunctional (how surprising, a bitchy ambitious woman who's also broken) and has sexual and emotional problems that spill all over the place. Although she tries to be rational in her work, she's incapable of being anything other than irrational in her personal life and regularly sees a therapist. Way to go, Jan!

MEREDITH: She's a slutty alcoholic. That's about all there is to it. Ho ho, watch out fellas! Get a little drink in her and…

KELLY: Probably the youngest woman in the group, she unsurprisingly also what most of you lfians would call a 'vapid cunt.' She yammers endlessly about nothing against the comic backdrop of a predictably sensible, down to earth young white male.

ANGELA: An accountant. Another example of what happens when you give a woman a little dose of brain-power: she becomes an enormous bitch. Angela is smart, but she is therefore also shrill and coarse, devoted to order, and spiteful of all those around her (except her darling man, of course).

PHYLIS: Phylis is every overweight, dim, depressed mother figure you've ever met. And that's all you need to know because that's all we ever see.

PAM: And Pam. Pam is supposed to be the darling of the show. She's the girl we all love and want Jim to end up with. And why? Well, because Pam is down to Earth, of course! I mean, not really - she has all these adorable little insecurities and can't figure out what to do with her personal life. Oh, her professional life is also garbage and she's pretty bad at her only hobby, which is making pedestrian little illustrations. She's just so gosh-darned… attainable! So thoroughly ordinary. So studied, so steeped in mediocrity. Meek, cute, dependent, supportive. The ideal woman.
